* Six Sigma, or 6 Sigma, is a
trademarked measurement methodology devloped by Motorola between 1984-1986
for reducing manufacturing defects and improving quality control in a
variety of industries. Six Sigma can apply to anything from manufacturing
to banking to insurance.
* Six Sigma methodology comes
in the two forms of DMAIC and DMADV. DMAIC stands for Define, Measure,
Analyze, Improve and Control, which is for business processes. DMADV
stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, and Verify, which applies to
product and process designs. There is also a hierarchical structure
designed for Six Sigma, which includes the roles (from top to bottom)
Executive Leadership, Champions, Master Black Belts, Black Belts, and
Green Belts.
